Vintage kokeshi handmade and hand painted by award winning artist Okamoto Usaburo I (1917-2009). Okamoto Usaburo began to devote himself to making kokeshi in the 1950s, and then became the founder of "Usaburo Kokeshi", a family business of kokeshi producers. Usaburo I is considered one of the main kokeshi masters, famous above all for the introduction of new styles and decoration techniques that have contributed to the birth of the so-called "creative" kokeshi, introduced special machines for their production and adopted a carving method and a type of pyrotechnics for which he used Nichrome wire in the decoration process, but previously only brushes were used. Over the course of his career he has been awarded numerous awards, including the prestigious and coveted Prime Minister's Award.
This lovely kokeshi wears a kimono with autumn leaves in autumn colors of red, orange and green.
Despite being a vintage piece, its general condition is very good, it has only small and light imperfections.
