Rare Kokeshi made, engraved and hand painted by the artist Etsuko Tokumaru. Born in Edogawa, Tokyo, in 1956, she began making kokeshi towards the end of her thirties under the guidance of artist Fumiko Ikari. For her works she has been awarded several prizes, won at the National Modern Kokeshi Exhibition in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005 and one won in 2017 at the All Japan Kokeshi Contest Gunma event. The kokeshi made by Etsuko Tokumaru are very colorful, full of details, smiling and express a lot of joy and happiness.
The name of this kokeshi is Arigatō which in Japanese means "thank you". The artist created a series of kokeshi all different from each other by giving them this name to show his gratitude to all those who would buy them and thinking of them as a gift to give to thank someone special. All the kokeshi in this series have a bouquet of flowers in their hands, a symbol of gratitude, love, affection or friendship that you want to show someone when you give a bouquet of flowers.
The wood used for its creation is Mizuki (Japanese dogwood). The kokeshi is 12cm tall.
It is accompanied by a wooden plate with the Japanese name of the kokeshi, the artist's signature and stamp, a wooden base and the original packaging is included.
