Kokeshi Osumosan

Kokeshi, made and hand painted by Usaburo Kokeshi, representing a mighty Sumo wrestler. Sumo is a Japanese national sport, it is a form of hand-to-hand fight in which two challengers face each other with the aim of landing or ousting the opponent from the combat area called dojo (raised straw ring). This kokeshi wears the traditional mawashi (special belt, made from a single long ribbon) and has the characteristic hairstyle called oicho (knot in the shape of a knee leaf). The wood used for the creation of this kokeshi is Mizuki (Japanese dogwood). This kokeshi stands 9cm tall and has a diameter of 6.5cm. Original packaging is included, stamped and signed by the artist who created the kokeshi.
