Kokeshi Doki-doki Yellow
Kokeshi Doki-doki Yellow
Kokeshi made and hand painted by the artist Miharu Kawakami. Miharu is a young artist, born in 1981 in Saitama prefecture, who started making kokeshi in 2016. Despite her young age she has already won several awards, among which we remember the New Face Award at the National Exhibition of Kokeshi Moderne in 2018. Miharu's kokeshi are completely different from those of other artists, she has a genre of her own, she herself defines her kokeshi Kawaii which translated into Italian means "cute, adorable".
We are very happy to present this young artist exclusively for Italy and we are proud that she has chosen to collaborate with us.
The name of this kokeshi is Doki-doki, which can roughly be translated as "heartbeat". In Japanese this term indicates the sound of a heart beating at an accelerated rate, resulting from a strong emotional reaction, from a surge of emotions such as being in love.
This kokeshi, in fact, depicts a young girl in love, who brings her hands to her face as if to hide her red cheeks from the embarrassment of the strong emotion she is feeling.
In 2018 the artist created a model similar to this and exclusively for us at Japanese Craftsmanship he created 7 unique pieces similar to that model but different from each other in the motif of the kimono, and in the colors and motif of the veil.
The wood used for the creation of this kokeshi is Shina (Tilia Japonica), a sustainable wood grown in the colder areas of Japan.
