Kakemono Koi
Kakemono Koi
A Kakemono, more commonly referred to as Kakejiku, is a Japanese painting or calligraphy, on silk or paper, fixed on a scroll to hang on a wall. Ideal for decorating a house wall, a dojo or a tea ceremony room.
This is an original Japanese vintage kakemono on which two carp and a pine branch have been painted. In the Japanese tradition, the carp (Koi) is an auspicious animal and is a symbol of courage and perseverance, and its longevity makes it an emblem of long life. Also the pine (matsu), being an evergreen plant, represents immortality and longevity.
On the right side of the painting there is the artist's signature and stamp. Although this is a period piece, its condition is very good. The kakemono is kept in its original box.
