Pair of kokeshi made in a single copy especially for us of Japanese Crafts by the artist Chiyomi Horiuchi, which depict the emperor and the empress of the hina-ningyo, the dolls that are exhibited in Japan on the occasion of the children's day, feast of Hina Matsuri.
These kokeshi stand out for the meticulous carving and painting work and for the many details that characterize them. The emperor and the empress are in Heian period clothing, he holds a ritual staff in his hand and she a fan. Wisteria flowers (Fujimusume) were painted on the empress's lemon tree, much loved in Japan for their beautiful and graceful appearance, very often in fact they are motifs of the classical Japanese painting called Otsue.
The wood used for the creation of these kokeshi is Mizuki (Japanese dogwood).
The kokeshi are accompanied by a beautiful set consisting of: a red mat, two wooden bases, a gold-colored screen, two paper lanterns (bonbori), traditional ornamental objects (vases with flowers) and a wooden plate on which there is their name in Japanese, the artist's signature and stamp.
The original packaging is included, stamped and signed by the artist and also the kokeshi are kept in two bags made from pieces of red kimono with heron motif, a symbol of long life.
Measurements: height and diameter of the emperor 15cm x 5.5cm; height and diameter of the empress 14cm x 7.5cm; red mat: 27cm x 20.5cm
